Dutch composer Michel Van der Aa has been awarded the 2013 Grawemeyer Award for Composition (previous winners including Boulez, Ades, Takemitsu, Penderecki, Birtwistle, Ligeti, and Lutoslawski) with his multimedia cello work Up Close. The following is a trailer for the award-winning piece which Van der Aa describes as “a cello concerto duplicated and magnified until it reaches the boundary of video opera.”
